Angel Tree

Every year St. Mark collects gifts for needy children in a program called Angel Tree through LSSI. The gifts you see will be picked up by Lutheran Social Services and given to needy foster children living in the Chicagoland area. Not included are the warm hats and gloves that were also collected for Grace Lutheran School. (see below).

Mission Interpreters

Mission interpreters, volunteers from congregations in each synod of the ELCA, tell the story of how our offerings and gifts are transformed into effective ministries. They remind us of how we make a difference in Christ’s mission and the work of the church, and they thank our people for their faithful giving.

This is primarily done through temple talks, visits with councils and committees, and helping in any way they are asked to share information, provide resources, and give guidance on doing God’s work at the congregational, synodical, and churchwide expressions. They also develop connections between the ELCA membership and its leadership and mission. Mission interpreters are trained in the various aspects of church ministry and mission and have the resources available to carry them out as a member of the ELCA.

Grace Lutheran School

Grace Lutheran School was founded in 1896 at the corner of 28th & Karlov. Five years later, Grace Lutheran Church was begun. Today, Grace Lutheran School is an RSO (registered non-profit service organization) The school relies on tuition, fundraising and the generous donations of friends and alumni to meet its budget. The mission of Grace Lutheran School is the same as it was in 1896, bring the good news of Jesus Christ to the children living in the Little Village neighborhood. The school offers a Christ centered education to children age three through grade eight.  For more information about the school and how you can help, contact the school at the address and phone number listed below.

Our ELCA Missionaries in Bolivia

Justin, Kari, and Everette Eller are our sponsored ELCA missionaries serving in Bolivia with the Iglesia Evangélica Luterana Boliviana (IELB). The Ellers serve in ways that support the mission and vision of the local Bolivian Lutheran Church, leading and educating as part of leadership development and capacity up-building, and accompanying the IELB along their journey of becoming an increasingly sustainable and solid church.

Kari is a teacher by profession working in regional Christian education curriculum development from the popular education methodology model. Kari is also the International Coordinator for the ELCA´s Latin America and Caribbean Christian Education program: Equipping God´s People (Capacitando al Pueblo de Dios - CPD). In her role as CPD Program Coordinator, she has edited the IELB´s most recent lectionary-based Sunday school material, Lord, teach us... Luke 11:1 (Señor, enséñanos... Lucas 11:1) and is working to train local Sunday School teachers through workshops. Kari is currently working on the second Sunday school book and a book on popular education methodology in Christian education.

During the past four years, Justin has worked as a Pastoral Educator in the areas of Lutheran confessions, pastoral identity, liturgy, and contextual Lutheran identity with pastors, women, and youth. In his role as educator, Justin has published two books (theological and liturgical) in collaboration with the IELB. Justin most recently taught a Church History 1 class at an ecumenical seminary in La Paz and the IELB´s first Lutheran Confessional Identity class. He is now the ELCA´s Regional Representative in South America.

Everette is Kari and Justin´s two year old son who is also an accompanying missionary because he accompanies his parents on most of their trips! Be sure to check out Kari´s quarterly newsletter at: karieller.weebly.com.
