May 2018 Memo (View/Download)

This month I would like to highlight four outstanding Christian women who will be serving in and representing our church.

Proceeding alphabetically,

Bethany Ulrich was born to missionary parents in Kenya and raised in the Missionary Alliance Church.  She graduated from Azusa Pacific University in California and is currently a student at Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago where she is studying to be a Deacon.  She and her husband Julio have been attending St Mark for about a year even though the live in Hyde Park. Bethany speaks fluent Spanish and spent 6 years as a project manager in Mexico City.  She has a passion for justice and ministry to and for those who are oppressed and marginalized. Bethany has honored us by choosing St. Mark to serve as her home congregation. She will continue to help lead the worship and occasionally preach. I know that you will make her feel welcome.

Dalisa Alsberry has been serving at St. Mark as a part time Office Assistant. She has been working with Linda and learning the ropes since this April.  Linda and I agree she is bright, very computer literate savvy, and a great fit for St Mark.  Dalisa is married to husband Dante and she is the mother of 5 children, Nehemiah (11), Titus (9), Robert (8), Alex (4), and Camille (3).  She is a part time student studying Business Administration at South Suburban College in South Holland. Dalisa grew up in South Holland, attending Valley Kingdom Ministries International in Oak Forest where her family currently worships.

Julia Trygstad - She is a PK (pastor's kid) and Susan and my amazing middle daughter. Julia attended Sandburg High, and Illinois State, graduating with a major in teaching special education.   Upon graduation she took jobs teaching in Harvey, Hanoi Vietnam, and Prague in the Czech Republic. While there she got involved with her church, helping to lead worship and Bible study. Beginning in July, Julia will enter the 2 year apprentice missionary program with surge missions.  Check out https://serge.org/mission. This month she will be coming back from Prague for training in Philadelphia, and after that, visiting churches in our area, telling people about her ministry, and inviting people and churches to participate in this ministry by supporting her financially and in prayer. (She will need to raise her own support).  Julia has chosen St. Mark as her home church.

Kim Ulrich (who is not related to Bethany) will soon be installed as our Sunday School Superintendent. Kim is married to David, and they have been members at St Mark for 14 years. She has been serving her Lord at St. Mark in many capacities over the years. She has been leading music in Sunday school for at least 10 years. She has served on the Fellowship Committee, and she and David provide leadership for the annual youth fishing trip.  You may know her from the 10 am Sunday service where she is part of Praise Hymn leading the worship, or you may recognize her as the red haired "Goldie Digger" from our musical "Rebound for Glory."  Kim has great musical gifts and she has a passion for kids.

We are so blessed at St Mark to have these gifted and committed sisters as part of our church.

Please continue to lift them up in prayer.

Your brother in Christ,
  Pastor Jay
